Freckles is 3 to 4 years old and harlequin with natural ears. She was rescued by a Good Samaritan passing by that saw her chained to the outside of a trailer. Inside the trailer were three poor families with lots of children. The people in the trailer said they wanted to sell her for groceries! They were given the groceries and a little money and in turn Freckles was handed over. While our Good Samaritan was giving these people the food and money, the little kids were playing and 'riding' on Freckles' back, which she totally tolerated. So, she seems to be great with kids, other dogs and people, though she is a little on the shy side for a few minutes while she gets to know that you will not hurt her. She is quiet and sweet and bonds quickly. She apparently has been allowed to be constantly pregnant in order to make money for the families. During her spay operation our vet commented that her uterus was so huge that it was the biggest he had ever seen and probably big enough to carry 20 puppies. Her nipples were huge and deformed and had to be removed. She had internal parasites, heavy calluses on her elbows, a very dirty smell, and her ears have been eaten by flies. She is, of course, heart worm positive too. After all this, her temperament is calm and sweet, as is the true forgiving nature of the Great Dane. Many thanks to the Angel that rescued her from that awful situation!
